Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Dr. Rednam is proud to offer a variety of hair restoration techniques to fit the need of every patient. PRP therapy is a groundbreaking procedure that uses a patient’s own blood cells to activate dormant hair follicles and, when successful, improve thinning hair.
This minimally-invasive therapy has been used in the medical field for decades, including the field of cosmetic enhancement. Plasma found in human blood contains a variety of growth factors, allowing the plasma to stimulate stem cells. This allows the treatment to reverse thinning hair and re-stimulate hair follicles in women and men alike, ultimately resulting in a normal hair growth pattern.
PRP Therapy can be completed in a short, in-office session that typically takes only 30-45 minutes. Dr. Rednam extracts a small amount of blood from your arm, and places it into a centrifuge. This separates the platelet rich plasma from the blood. Dr. Rednam then injects the concentrated plasma into the treatment areas on the scalp at the base of the hair follicles, allowing the PRP to re-activate the dormant follicles.
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is minimally-invasive, and requires minimal to no downtime after the procedure. Many patients may feel tenderness at the treatment area immediately after the therapy, but this typically dissipates quickly. Most patients require two to three treatments to see maximum results. Full recovery from an arm lift takes about 6-9 weeks. Most patients resume daily activity after about 3 weeks—which includes lifting heavy objects and carrying small children.
PRP treatment has proven to be effective in many patients, but is not beneficial for patients who have an absence of hair follicles in the affected area. This treatment can help stimulate inactive hair follicles, so it can only work on areas that show healthy, but dormant, follicles. During an initial consultation, Dr. Rednam will determine your candidacy for PRP Therapy.
