Breast Lift, Houston, TX, Dr. Rukmini Rednam MD

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a breast surgery procedure that raises and restores sagging breast tissue for a youthful, more lifted look. As a board-certified breast surgeon in Houston, Texas, Dr. Rukmini Rednam helps patients achieve a lifted contour that aligns with their goals.

Over time, changes like pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, and the natural aging process can affect the shape and position of your breasts. Gravity, skin laxity, and a loss of volume can cause breasts to lose their once-perky appearance, resulting in sagging, drooping, or flattening. Recognized as one of Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors of 2026, Dr. Rednam is celebrated for delivering artistic, refined results by tailoring the optimal breast lift technique to each patient’s unique anatomy. About Breast Lifts

A breast lift is a surgical procedure that can restore and rejuvenate your breast profile, making it look more youthful and lifted. It is common for your breasts to change over time due to factors like pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, and the natural aging process, causing them to sag. In these cases, a breast lift is an effective solution. Breast lifts vary based on the patient’s condition, goals, and individual needs. Dr. Rednam’s unique expertise allows her to determine which technique will be most effective for each patient’s goals.(1)

Donut Lift

A donut breast lift, also known as a periareolar or Benelli lift, corrects minimal sagging by modifying the nipples and reshaping the breasts. During surgery, Dr. Rednam makes a circular incision around the outer edge of the areola, followed by a larger, concentric secondary incision, where she then removes the ring of skin between them. Next, she uses a “purse-string” stitch to draw the outer skin inward, matching the smaller areola size to tighten the breast tissue and create a subtle upward lift.

A donut lift is an effective solution for patients with smaller breasts who experience mild breast sagging, where their nipple sits at or just below the crease under the breast. This procedure is typically popular among women who are already generally content with their natural breast volume but who wish to correct minor drooping. This procedure is also ideal for patients who are dissatisfied with the size, asymmetry, or puffiness of their areolas, since Dr. Rednam will simultaneously resize and reshape them.

Initially, scarring will appear as a thin pink line around your areola and will fade within six months. Following your procedure, results will be immediately noticeable, and you will receive aftercare instructions from Dr. Rednam to ensure an optimal outcome. (1)

Crescent Lift

Another ideal procedure for women who have minimal breast sagging is a crescent lift, or a crescent mastopexy. Dr. Rednam makes a crescent-shaped incision around the top half of the nipple and removes excess skin and fat to lift the areolas. She then pulls up the upper edge of the areola and stitches it to the higher skin edge, slightly lifting the nipple. Both the donut and crescent lifts have similar recovery processes and leave minimal scarring. The key difference between the methods is that the crescent lift targets upper-pole asymmetry by using the top half of the areola for very minor lifts, whereas the donut lift makes a full circular incision around the entire areola, allowing greater vertical adjustments and allowing for more scar and stretch predictability. Both methods produce natural-looking results and have a similar recovery process. (2)

Lollipop Lift

A lollipop lift, or vertical mastopexy, raises the sagging nipple-areolar complex (NAC) to a more perky, youthful position on the chest. During surgery, Dr. Rednam makes an incision circling the areola and extending vertically down the breast toward the breast crease. She removes excess skin and reshapes breast tissue into a more rounded, sculpted contour. From there, she elevates the NAC to a higher position so it sits naturally on the breast. She closes the incisions with internal stitches to create the lollipop pattern, hence the name. This procedure allows Dr. Rednam to carefully remove excess skin while avoiding the horizontal scar beneath the breast, resulting in a rounder, more lifted breast shape. After this procedure, you will be able to return to desk work within 7-10 days and can expect to be cleared for full activity within 4-6 weeks. (3)

Anchor Lift

An anchor lift, or wise pattern mastopexy, is the most comprehensive technique, making it the standard choice for patients who have lost significant breast volume, such as after pregnancy or weight loss.

Dr. Rednam performs this surgery by combining the lollipop incision with an additional horizontal incision along the natural crease beneath your breast. This method is best for maximum skin removal and tissue reshaping, allowing Dr. Rednam to deliver an effective, natural-lifted result while removing significant amounts of skin.

The anchor lift leaves the same scar as the lollipop lift in addition to a horizontal scar along the crest beneath your breast, resulting in an inverted T-shape. You can return to work within 10-14 days of the procedure and will have full activity clearance within 8-12 weeks. (1)

Benefits

Breast lifts bring several benefits to patients. Notable advantages include:

  • Lifting sagging or deflated breasts
  • Restoring breast symmetry
  • Improving nipple and areola position
  • Enhancing overall breast shape
  • Achieving a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance
  • Creating natural-looking results with or without implants

Dr. Rednam is known for delivering refined, artistic results using the best breast lift technique for each patient’s anatomy.

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for a breast lift are in good overall health, non-smokers, and maintain a stable weight. This procedure may be right for you if:

  • Your breasts appear deflated or pendulous.
  • Nipples point downward or sit below the breast crease.
  • Your breasts have lost shape or firmness.
  • One breast sits lower than the other.
  • You have tubular breasts, stretched skin, or asymmetry.

The goal of a breast lift isn’t to add volume but to sculpt the breasts into a rejuvenated, youthful shape. A mastopexy procedure can be performed in conjunction with an augmentation, but it can also yield exceptional results as a standalone procedure. The best way to determine which option will yield the best results is a consultation with Dr. Rednam.

Personal Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Rednam will review your medical history, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals. She’ll explain the procedure in detail, helping you understand what to expect from surgery and recovery.

This is the perfect time to ask questions, discuss concerns, and build a customized treatment plan. As a board-certified breast surgeon, Dr. Rednam prioritizes education and transparency to ensure you feel empowered and informed. It is important to understand that every woman’s figure is unique, and patients must have realistic expectations about their results. Dr. Rednam will choose the best technique for you based on your ptosis grade, nipple position, skin elasticity, and breast volume.

Recovery

After your breast lift surgery, Dr. Rednam will give you detailed aftercare instructions to support healing and have you schedule follow-up appointments. Most patients go home the same day with bandages and a supportive garment.

During your recovery, you can expect:

  • Swelling and mild discomfort for a few days
  • Gradual fading of incisions over time
  • Visible improvements immediately, with final results appearing over the next few months

Throughout your recovery, Dr. Rednam will have you wear a supportive bra to preserve the healing breast shape. To maintain your lifted results, Dr. Rednam recommends maintaining a stable weight and practicing a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. Rednam and her team will guide you through every phase of your breast lift recovery.

Corresponding Procedures

To achieve more complete results, many patients choose to combine a breast lift with supporting procedures tailored to their personal goals. Breast lift surgery is frequently performed as part of a mommy makeover, a combination of procedures designed to help women achieve more comprehensive body contouring. Common mommy makeover procedures include tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction, Brazilian Butt Lift, and labiaplasty. A breast lift alters breast shape and results in more youthful, perky breasts, but it will not change the size or volume of your breasts. For patients who wish to increase the size of their breasts, Dr. Rednam may recommend combining a breast lift with breast augmentation. Patients who desire smaller breasts may choose to undergo breast reduction surgery in combination with their breast lift.

FAQ

Will a breast lift affect breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding may be affected, depending on the technique and your anatomy. If future breastfeeding is a priority, let Dr. Rednam know during your consultation so she can tailor her surgical approach.

Will I have scars?

All mastopexy procedures involve incisions. Dr. Rednam customizes each patient’s breast lift procedure, using several types of incisions to ensure the best results based on that patient’s anatomy and cosmetic goals. When you attend your breast lift consultation, Dr. Rednam will discuss the different incisions and techniques she uses and which approach is right for you. Any breast lift will result in some scarring, but Dr. Rednam is careful to place incisions in areas where scars will be discrete and fade over time. As a woman and a mastopexy patient herself, Dr. Rednam understands the importance of creating beautiful and predictable scars. She utilises brijjits,(4) a proven tension relieving dressing to help optimize a thin vertical scar.

How long does a breast lift last?

While breast lift results are long-lasting, the exact duration varies by patient depending on several factors. You can take steps to extend the longevity of your results, such as maintaining a stable weight, wearing a supportive bra, and refraining from smoking or using nicotine products.
