What is High Definition Liposuction?
High definition liposuction, also referred to as high def lipo or HD lipo, is a form of liposuction that not only removes fat but also creates a more sculpted look to underlying muscles.
High def lipo is a form of VASER (vibration amplification of sound energy resonance) liposuction. Preparing for High Definition Liposuction
The key to preparing for high definition liposuction is to attend a personal consultation with Dr. Rukmini Rednam. During this appointment, Dr. Rednam will conduct a brief examination and review of your medical history. You will have the opportunity to be candid with Dr. Rednam about your cosmetic concerns and goals, and together you will decide if high def lipo is right for you. Once your procedure is scheduled, you will be given detailed pre- and postoperative instructions.
The High Definition Liposuction Procedure
High definition liposuction may be performed under total IV sedation or general anesthesia and is an outpatient procedure.
Before the procedure, Dr. Rednam spends time studying your natural anatomy to make sure any enhancements look natural and age well. She then makes strategic micro-incisions and applies a tumescent fluid to help enhance the fat removal by adding fluid- and blood-loss reducing medications. Next, the VASER device is used to gently remove unwanted fat, which is then removed with a cannula. If fat transfer augmentation is also part of the patient’s treatment plan, the removed fat is purified and then reintroduced into areas of the body where more volume is desired.
High Definition Liposuction Recovery and Results
After high definition liposuction, you will be fitted with a compression garment or garments to help reduce swelling and aid in healing. Dr. Rednam may also place surgical drains to help clear excess fluid. Most patients are able to return to work within seven to ten days and get back to light exercise after two to four weeks.
Swelling from high definition liposuction may take up to twelve months to fully subside and lymphatic massage is highly encouraged to get the optimal results. As swelling gradually decreases you will be able to begin to appreciate your new contours.
