What is Body Lift Surgery?

Body lift surgery, also known as a circumferential body lift or belt lipectomy, is a transformative procedure designed to address excess skin and tissue remaining after significant weight loss. This comprehensive surgery targets multiple areas of the body, including the abdomen, outer thighs, and buttocks, where loose skin can obscure the results of your weight loss efforts. By removing this excess skin and tightening the underlying tissues, body lift surgery reveals a more toned and sculpted physique. Trusetd Source Checkbox Trusted Source Body Lift ASPS Go to Source

Preparing for Body Lift Surgery

Preparation for body lift surgery begins with a comprehensive initial consultation with Dr. Rednam. During this consultation, Dr. Rednam will discuss your goals and concerns, evaluate your overall health, and determine the best body sculpting plastic surgery plan to achieve your desired outcomes. She will also review your medical history and may request additional tests or imaging studies to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure.

You will receive detailed instructions on how to prepare for plastic surgery, including guidelines on eating, drinking, and adjusting medications. Dr. Rednam will provide specific advice on what to avoid in the weeks leading up to your surgery to minimize risks and promote optimal healing. Additionally, she will help you plan for your post-operative care and recovery period, including arranging for assistance at home, preparing a comfortable recovery space, caring for sutures and drains, and scheduling follow-up appointments. By carefully following these guidelines, you can help ensure a smooth and successful recovery process, leading to the best possible results from your body lift surgery.

The Surgical Process of Circumferential Body Lift

Circumferential body lift is usually an outpatient procedure and is performed under general anesthesia. This surgery is highly customized to address your individual concerns and meet your goals. Typically, an incision will be made very low on the abdomen and across the lower back just above the buttocks. Dr. Rednam will try to place this incision so that any scarring will be concealed by underwear. Patients with very significant excess skin may require a more extensive approach, such as a Fleur-de-lis tummy tuck, which involves a vertical incision down the abdomen. Dr. Rednam will remove excess abdominal skin, tighten abdominal muscles, lift the buttocks, and utilize liposuction in order to achieve ideal body contours.

Recovery After Circumferential Body Lift

Dr. Rednam will discuss your expected recovery timeline and provide you with detailed instructions for postsurgical care. In general, you can expect to have surgical drains in place to help with healing. You may experience some swelling, bruising, or discomfort after surgery, but Dr. Rednam offers Exparel, a long-lasting, non-opioid medication that provides three full days of pain management for a more comfortable recovery. You will need to refrain from any heavy lifting or strenuous activity for at least six weeks, but you will be encouraged to walk frequently during your recovery time. You will need to wear special compression garments for six weeks to minimize swelling and aid recovery.
